Hi again. hopefully somebody will be able to help :)

Dd2 (13 days) has woken up with a gunky gammy eye. I know the best way to clear it is wipeing the eye useing cotton wool and breast milk, however we are in the middle of thrush treatment (babies mouth seems to be clear but my nips are still very painful so I'm guesseing the infection is still there.

Does anybody know if its still safe or not to wipe over her eyes? If not what would you suggest? Thankyou XX

I don't know the answer for sure, but TBH I wouldn't take the risk. You can get antibiotic cream for her eyes (not as natural or easy as using breastmilk but effective!) - you'll need a prescription from the doc but they may be able to do it via a phone/email request rather than needing an appointment (mine does anyway).

Optometrist here.

Just use cooled boiled water to rinse.

Is it pus or just a mucous? If it's just gunk rather than pus then there's no point in antibiotics as it's not an infection. It's just than the canal from the nose to the eye is incomplete which is extremely common. Nothing to be done as 95% of cases canalisation will be complete by the age of 12 months. And repair has to be done under a general so they won't do anything till that age anyway.

Thanks for replies mini and puddle

It's not puss,Just a lot of general gunkiness that is yellow and slimey but crusts over her eye. I tried what you suggested and it defenetly seems alot clearer now so thankyou :)
