Hi everyone
I have a naughty 13 week old baby who was a champion breast feeder but for the last two weeks has gradually got more and more fussy on the boob to the point where a feed seems to be a few sucks lasting no more than a minute or two!?
She goes 2.5-3 hours between feeds even these faffy ones and seems very happy and alert.
She sleeps well at night waking twice in 13 hours and the night feeds are the only decent ones she has now, lasting about 20 minutes.
She seems quite distract able which isn't helping, she doesn't cry during these faffy feeds but just bobs on and off!
She refuses to take a bottle so I'm terrified that she's not wanting boob either and then I'll have no way to feed her!!? HELP!

Have you tried doing daytime feeds in a dark quiet room? Sounds like she's getting distracted especially if night feeds are better. Or my other thought is perhaps teething pain. Have you tried one of the analgesic gels before a feed?

It sounds like she is distracted. Do you have a stretchy wrap sling ir a baby bjorn type carrier/ergonomic carrier- at that age it was the only way I could get nosy ds to feed and it is now Wink

My 12 week old is the same, now he does get distracted, easily, and when he turns his head to have a look at something he tries to take my nipple with him. Ouch!!!!! He is still piling on the weight and feeding well overnight so I'm hoping it's just a faze.

Had her weighed today and although she's gained 1lb 6oz in the last month she's slightly slipped down the centile charts, HV wasn't concerned but is coming back in a week to weigh her again to check
She fed a little better today, although still coming off after a minute and not wanting to really go back on.
I tried the dark room in the day and it doesn't seem to make a difference, she's also been quite sicky today and dribbly so maybe teething!?

hi there,
dont worry. around 3-4 months babies show more interest to the world. try to feed on quite undestractable place. You may also try to prolong the interval between feeding. it doesnt seem she is in any form of distress. check for her wet nappies and bowel motions. if they are fine unlikely to be worried. if it continues check her weight to be in the safe side. you can always request for a gp check up if it worries.
best wishes

Hi, a lactation nurse told me at 3 months baby's get fussy on the boob. 1 because they are suddenly more alert and 2 because they are getting their milk order in. Apparently its a way to tell your boob to make more milk. Apparently alot of mums don't know this and panic and go to the bottle but it's a faze apparently. Hope this helps anyone googleing
