Worried - baby grabbing boobs

bumpiesonamission · 16/06/2014 10:48

My lo is 20 weeks and has started to pinch and grab my boobs during feeding. I am a bit sore today and I think its due to that or his cluster feeding and I am worried he may be damaging the milk ducts. Can someone reassure or advise me on a. damage and b. how to make him stop?

Your baby will not damage you at all, but yes, that's irritating....it usually passes and it is a feature of older baby's behaviour. There will be lots of posts with good ideas shortly :)

I just used to gently hold my DDs arms down until she settled. It seemed to be worse at the beginning of feeds.

My daughter is also 20 weeks and has started to grab and pinch the skin on my arm when feeding - it hurts! I think she just likes to squeeze something so distracting her with a muslin or a blanket to squeeze usually (well sometimes...) works.

Keep his nails trimmed, try giving him something else to fiddle with (cloth, large-beaded necklace), and try to lay the groundwork for some good breastfeeding manners as he gets older: kellymom.com/ages/older-infant/nursing-manners-2/
