Breastfeeding help Manchester - Mary's Hospital or anywhere centralish

Does anyone know who to contact for breastfeeding help in central manchester? It's for my sister who gave birth at St Mary's. They have a breastfeeding helpline on their website that doesn't work Angry Angry I went through from the switchboard but no one is answering, although I've left a message.

She's had mastitis 3 times, is on her 2nd lot of antibiotics, suspects she now has thrush, also has cracked nipples and breast pain. She says latching the baby on is agony, although she's managing to express, but not enough to feed baby. She says HV has checked for tongue tie already.

Any ideas? Does anyone know any experts who can come out and see her? She says she can't get out the house because feeding and expressing taking up all her time.

I'm angry for her because breastfeeding support is so much better where I live but she can't access it because she's 40 mins drive away Angry

There's a great breastfeeding support group run by midwives at the Sure Start Centre in Moss Side - it's on every Thursday from 9.30-11.30. Alternatively she could see if there's something similar at her local Sure Start? They're fantastic resources when you have kids.

Or she could try contacting the community midwives from Wythenshawe on 0161 291 2809 - they could at least point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

I was also going to say about the Moss side sure start centre on thursday mornings.
How old is the baby?
It's really worth it going to one of these sessions as I had the same with my DC1 and didn't go because I was always expressing and feeding, but I really regret not makin the effort as bfing totally failed with DC1 in the end. Can she get a taxi with baby, should only take less than 10mins from central manchester.

She could also try the NCT helpline and they will direct her to a bf councellor in manchester.
also there is a new group here...around 10mins drive from central manchester.

Thanks everyone :) Baby is 4 weeks old. Sister lives in Hulme, I think that's quite near Moss side isn't it? So I let her know about the breastfeeding support group. I guess the next one is not till next week now though.

I will also mention La leche league, do you know if someone will be able to come out and see her? She's feeling very overwhelmed I think. HV not that much help either, although she did check for tongue tie.

Thanks Thanks
