Breast feeding and baby constripated

Not sure if anyone can help me on this one. My 8 week old dd has been constripated for the past week, she is breast feed and I wondered if it could be anything I'm eating that could pass on though the breast milk causing it? She has been quite happy and doesn't seem to be in any pain but I just wish she would do a poo. I gave her Infacol over a week ago (before being constripated) could this of caused it? I've spoken to the doctor who advised giving her a small amount of prune juice mixed with boiled water, I've done this twice but still no poo just lots of smelly wind.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you. x

its quite normal for a bf baby to go a week or more between poos without being constipated. If she is happy then I would leave jer be but be prepared for a ginormous poo sometime soon

www.mother-2-mother.com/normal.htm#Normal%20Stools says

At around the age of six weeks, the stooling pattern of a breastfed baby may change. It is not uncommon for the breastfed baby to skip days between bowel movements. Some babies skip every other day, some go every two or three days, some once every 5 - 7 days, and some babies hold out for up to 11 or 12 days at a time - then have quite a FULL diaper when they DO go!

err and your GP's advice is very out dated please don't give her anything else. they can actually go upto 2 weeks without pooing. As long as her poo is still soft when she does go its not a problem.

Just be prepared for a full change of cloths if you take her out.

That's brilliant thank you for your replies I feel a lot happier now.

I will make sure i'm prepared for when she does go, might get dh to change that one haha :) x

My LO goes between 1-2 weeks without pooping. Totally healthy and normal though.

Agree with others. Dd used to poo about once per week - a poo explosion!

I have an anecdote (not science yada yada ), was probably coincidence but when my baby hadn't pooed for a while I drank a pint of orange juice then fed him later. He pooed lots and lots shortly after...

Def anecdote, def not science :) :)

Unless you know how the orange juice got into the milk :)

Probably spilled it down my chest. :o The timing was uncanny though.

Is your LO unsettled? If no, I would not worry at all.
