Anyone with experience of upper lip tie division?

Just wondered if anyone has experience of upper lip tie division?

Five-week-old DS had anterior tongue tie division at two weeks which significantly improved BF. At the appointment, it was confirmed that he also has an upper lip tie, although they won't divide these at the hospital.

DS's lip doesn't flange correctly when he latches, and has the callus often seen when this is the case. He seems uncomfortable, needing a lot of winding, and possets frequently, after feeds. I wonder if this is due to the effect of the lip tie on his latch, although I suppose it is possible that he has reflux in addition to the ties.

I've been in touch with a dentist who will divide the lip tie privately, but poor DS has already had one procedure which he didn't enjoy (and it's quite a lot of money to find - £400 - but obv well worth it if it helps DS) so I'd be interested to hear any experiences before I request a consultation.

We had DDs lasered by the dentist in Huddersfield. I've forgotten his name.

I don't know if it made a difference or not, to be honest, not really for my DD.

It didn't join back together which was good and didn't long to heal at all. I'm still not too sure if we should have got it done or just left it.

Tbh from what you describe it sounds more like reflux, but who knows what the cause really is. My DD we later found out had cows milk allergy, and it was most probably that, that was causing all the problems.

Also I don't think it should cost more than £150? We paid £250 for both tongue and lip tie. I also read on MN recently that NICE guidelines were against lip ties. I have no idea why.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm in London so Huddersfield's a way to go Smile

I don't know if LCs divide lip ties. I contacted a doctor and a dentist I read about on MN - it was prob me that mentioned the NICE guidelines as that's what the doctor's secretary told me last week about why he no longer divides lip ties.

Does lip ties and also another dr at Kingston hospital, does it privately. I've probably got his details somewhere, just need to look it up.

Thanks.

Dr Levinkind is the dentist with whom I've been in touch!
