Those of you who didn't try breast feeding...

What happens in the days / weeks after birth with your boobs?
Did they produce milk and leak everywhere? Did they get hard and sore? How long did it last? When did your milk go? When were your boobs normal again?

Anyone have any info?

Mine didn't start producing anything until about day 5, and it was more of a little leak as opposed to anything major. I did feel a little fluey and my boobs did feel quite hot to the touch, but that passed after a day or so as I was on painkillers since birth (had stitches). It probably took about three weeks in all before I stopped making any milk and they went back to normal, but it only ever seemed to be one side that leaked, strangely enough, and I made sure I didn't wear anything too tight for comfort.

By day 3 mine were like floatation devices. I was given advice of don't stimulate them at all even the shower on them so from day 3 I tried not to touch them at all, mine only leaked once when hearing another baby cry in Tesco! And within a week they had started to go down, within two weeks I was back in normal bras.

I did breast feed for 3 days and then stopped. Milk didn't come in properly until day 7, but I only really leaked at night for a few days and a bit achy for a day or so. Other than that back to normal fairly quickly.

I didn't breast feed at all. My milk came in on the 4th/5th day after birth. A little sooner with dc3. I wore a bra, used some breast pads, leaked a little for a week or so. I didn't touch my breasts at all, not even in the shower etc. My breasts weren't as hard after the first week & leaking stopped after a few weeks. Again everything was "quicker" with dd2 & dd3.

I didn't breastfeed 3 of my dc. I just wore a bra constantly after the birth. Milk disappeared after a few days. I barely leaked. My breasts were engorged & tender whilst engorged but that only lasted about 48 hours.
