Help please...
DS2 is a sleepy baby and not feeding at all well - he was keen to suck from birth, but it was painful for me and he doesn't latch well - mostly chews on the nipple, doesn't draw it in deeply enough. He does suck well for very short periods, but never for more than a few minutes.
We had his 50% tongue tie divided on day 5. Pain improved massively, but not much else has changed.
My left boob seems to have barely any supply, the right is better but he makes that nip lipstick shaped.
I've been trying to express yesterday and today and can only get 5-10ml out of both breasts, not each.
He just isn't getting enough into him, and still had utates in his nappy two days ago. One big poo yesterday, but generally not much. 3-4 properly wet nappies a day.

He was 6lb15oz at birth and had only lost 3% on day 5, was weighed again yesterday and had lost another 10g - not much, but should be gaining by now.

DS1 was a bit early (36wks) and a nightmare to feed (TT, colic, silent reflux, no suck reflex), I spent months expressing tiny quantities, no sleep, feeding a combo of formula, expressed milk, and horribly painful BF attempts (constant blocked ducts). I hate expressing. Eventually got him onto just BF, and fed him til his 2nd birthday - it was a huge relief to get rid of the bottles.

I'm dreading having the same troubles with DS2, and desperate to make the most of these early days before bad habits set in/opportunities are lost. He's such an easy baby in comparison, and I really really want to BF.

Any advice welcomed Thanks

Sorry to hear that things aren't that good....sounds like you need some help to sort out a deep latch. Is there anyone around that would be able to do that? Something like an exaggerated latch might be useful.

Regarding the pumping, I really don't think it indicates a poor supply if you don't get much.

Hope you can get some more help from somebody in real life soon. Smile

Thank you badger, I'll have a Google re deep latch tips.

Tomorrow I'll call the lactation consultant that snipped his TT, see if she can help too.

Is it worth trying a hospital grade pump??.I'm on dc3 and this is the 1st time I have tried one. Ater 1 weeks use I'd doubled the amount I could get from pumping, I just wish I'd got one sooner.
The NCT site has links to local co-ordinators.
