My baby hasn't pooed for 5 days...

Hi,

DD is 3 months old and breastfed. She's healthy and happy but hasn't pooed for 5 days now. I'm getting a bit worried. She's farting a bit, and it smells like breastmilk poo - but nothing. We've tried cycling her legs this evening. She does lots of tummy time and rolling onto her side and back and this doesn't seem to cause her any discomfort. She's feeding normally too. But where is the poo?

Any advice welcome. I don't live in UK so no HV. Thanks.

It's normal at that age IME. I've seen people say 12 days. The longest my dd went was 8 but she was totally fine.

The Kellymom website says: "After 4 – 6 weeks, some babies stool less frequently, with stools as infrequent as one every 7-10 days."

This is completely normal for breastfed babies. Enjoy the lack of poo until the poosplosion happens Grin

Babies absorb the breastmilk so efficiently. Some babies go two weeks without! I didn't know this and don't know why it isn't more well known!
Enjoy - it changes after solids are introduced!

Perfectly normal!

It honestly is normal. Longest my little girl went for was 3 weeks - doctors kept telling me not to worry as it was normal not to go for 2 weeks as there is so little waste from good quality breast milk!

oh well done. if I then say my little 11 week old hasn't poo'd since the hospital did a glycerin chip on tuesday! will it work?!!!

I miss the days when my BF DD only produced a dirty nappy every five days Smile
Now she is a toddler who produces up to four horrendously stinky nappies per day Grin

I love breastmilk poo. My DD1 is 2 and does real stinkers!! Haha! I'm also glad I've found a place I can freely admit my love of baby poo!! .Wink
