7 week old latch suddenly changed and causing lots of pain

Hi all,
Title says it all really. My best friend had her baby 7 weeks ago. Had a lot of trouble with feeding to start with. Severe tongue tie and jaundice caused lots of latch issues. But she persevered and by week four felt like it had all improved. Baby was latching fine, feeding fine and stacking on weight. It the last few days she feels like latch has slipped a bit, he is still feeding fine but only taking the nipple into his mouth which is causing her a lot of pain.
She went to a clinic today who told her latch was fine and that maybe she should just give up and switch to bottles.
She really doesn't want to though as he is thriving and would feel guilty she was giving up just to save pain.
I have run out of suggestions, so hoping for some tips on how to improve latch again.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi there, it's been a long time since I've given any breastfeeding advice so am bumping this in case someone else sees it.
Also, has she tried calling any of the breastfeeding helplines? BfN/ABM?LLL?

National Breastfeeding Helpline
0300 100 0212

NCT Breastfeeding Helpline

La Leche League Helpline

Am extremely shocked a breast feeding support clinic would suggest she cease nursing without more support tbh! Was it one attached to a local health authority or charity volunteer based?

I started with breast feeding issues which improved after having tongue tie cut, however at about the same time as your friend I found my latch had changed and was getting sore again so I asked for the tongue tie to be checked again. It turned out that she still had a bit of tongue tie so that got cut again.
It might be worth having that checked.
