New to bottle feeding - some fab MN advice needed !

New to bottle feeding and HV's are confusing me by giving different advice. DD is 4 months old. Two questions :

  1. Should I be offering cooled boiled water as well as formula and if so how much and when and bottle or cup at 4 months? She's only had Formula or breast so far.

  2. Does anyone know if you can buy Aptamil milk in Spain? Can you use boiled tap water there?

Hope someone can help, I trust your advice more than my HV's anyday!!

Ta x

Ok 1] i offer water on hot days and if baby seems thirsty between feeds. It can be in a bottle or a trainer bottle/cup, soft spout not to fast a flow.

2] call the helpline number on the box, they may market it under a different name.

tommee tippee makes a first cup without a valve and one hole at the top. i would use this one to put water in as little drops can come out into your baby's mouth without any sucking. in fact if i would go straight from breast to cup using this cup and bypass bottle if i were to have another baby.

Thank you. That website is really useful MNP. Will try the training cup kiskidee.

aptamil is the only uk milk you can get in spain and its the same name.

only offer extra water on very hot days or if baby cries between feeds cos more often than not it is cos of thirst and not hunger.

forgot to add the drinking water in spain is safe to drink so you can use it whether it is boiled or not. if you were somewhere where the tap water was NOT safe to drink, you do not need to buy bottled water, just boil the tap water or use purifying tablets.

oh also if you use purifying tablets you should filter the water first. this is because there are some parasites the purifying tablets cannot get rid of but the filter can and vice versa. boiling the water for one minute on the other hand kills everything (boil for 3 minutes if at a high altitude of more than 2000m or boil it for one minute, filter, then add the tablets.)
