Breast feeding xpressed milk on the go>

Hi all,

I have a question about feeding my newborn expressed breast milk on a day out.

I'm not very well at the moment and unable to leave the house, however I would like my DH to be able to take DD to visit family and relatives without me. What's the rule on transporting breast milk in a bottle? How long does it last etc?

Thanks :-)

You can freeze it and it keeps for six months in the freezer, so could you freeze it and give him a freezer bag with cool packs for the journey? My sister is a bf consultant so I'll check with her how long it lasts refrigerated. Hope you get better soon.

I exclusively express so am always taking bottles of breast milk out and about. It's good for 6 hours at room temperature and 5 days in the fridge.

I've been keeping expressed milk in the fridge for up to four days, then using the avent bottle thermos cool bag thing to take them out in and keep them cool. Only tend to take milk out in it for up to four hours, not sure if you can do longer.

I've found the cool bag really helpful and it was about 12 quid from John Lewis. Defo helped me to store expressed milk whilst out and about. I used medela bottles in it rather than avent and they fit really well.
