How many breastfeeds a day for my 9 month year old?

I have been exclusively breastfeeding my daughter since birth. She is now 9 months old and feeds three times a day (morning, lunch and before bed). During each feed, she will feed hard for about 5-10 minutes, but after that loses interest and wants to sit up or go back to playing. We then have a fight to continue the feed. This makes it impossible to feed her in public and so I was wondering when it's ok to stop the lunchtime feed? I'd also like my periods to return so we can start trying for number 2 and everyone says if you're breatsfeeding its more diff to get preg. I also don't want to introduce a bottle at this late stage.

three times a day is fine. if she is feeding for 5 -10 mins that is more than enough to get what she needs. i wouldn't fight with her to have more. you just need to follow her lead really. My dd fed more often than 3 times a day even at 12 months and my period came back at 13 months anyway. you may still be fertile but not having periods. i have heard that if there is a 6 hr or more break between feed then you are more than likely fertile.
