EXTENDED BREASTFEEDERS - When did your period return?

Hiya,
Im BFing my 20 week old DS and plan to continue on demand for the 12 months, but am unsure whether to continue past that. Does your period return as they begin to cut the breast feeds down? Or not until you stop fully? I was thinking about TTC when DS is 1 so would drop the BFing then if it still stops periods...thanks x

similar story, except for the new baby!

I have to tell you something and this seems like a safe place to share

This evening at bedtime I was cuddling and kissing goodnight ny nearly three year old ds2 whom I stopped bf-ing when he was 2. Anyway, I clutched him to my left bosom, you know how cute they are at bedtime and it was just one of those spontaneous things - we were both fully dressed btw - and I talked about how he used to get his milk from mum but now he was a big boy etc etc blah blah blah.
Anyway, all evening my left bosom has been hardening and feeling full! I think my glands are stirring just from that brief mention of BFing while holding my boy.

Please dont' report me to the Social Services will you

11 months. Fed DS until he was 18 months.

belgo · 17/08/2006 08:54

Within two months for dd1, despite breast feeding on the two hours day and night; after 11 months for dd2.

lazycow · 17/08/2006 09:55

I got my periods back when ds was 3 months old - I was exclusively breastfeeding including several night feeds until he was 8/9 months old or so. I do remember having to get up at night to feed ds and also to take painkillers and change my pads as the first couple of AFs were very heavy.

I have continued breastfeeding but less on demand and not at night -ds is now 21 months old and my AFs are regular as clockwork every month though much lighter than they used to be.

lazycow · 17/08/2006 09:56

Sorry - not exclusively bfeeding for 8 months but definitely night feeding. Exclusively bfed for 6 months only.

princessmel · 22/08/2006 19:53

10 months. When she started to drop a night feed.

sasa15 · 22/08/2006 19:58

I stopped breasfeeding in October and my period
came in JAnuary

mum2jemima · 24/08/2006 13:27

My baby was 12 months old when my periods returned. However, I was still breastfeeding her and still am mostly night and morning but sometimes also in the daytime. Have had three periods now so seem to be back properly.
