Burning sensation when baby feeds - 8 mo

After a bit of advice - my left breast is sore, and when my baby (8 mo) feeds, there is a burning sensation, and a tiny white patch of skin on the nipple, perhaps at the end of a milk duct I think.

I thought I might be getting mastitis after I felt a hard area on Friday, but after a bit of massaging and lots of feeding, the hard patch went, so I'm not sure it is that now.

My breasts now feel normal - no hard areas, but the left breast still hurts when I feed my baby. :(

Just wondered if any of you might have any ideas? Thanks.

It may be the start of thrush, if so your gp can prescribe some meds for you and baby.

I find a blocked duct can be dire for a while once I've cleared it. What type of pain?

Is it tiny tiny white patch like pin head? And super white? If so sounds like a bleb or milk blister from a blocked duct. That hard patch would have been the milk backing up as it was unable to escape.

Sounds like the little plug that was blocking could still be there. Could appear after she feeds and then go back up a little later so you don't see it. Kellymom has some tips on how to remove.

Or I was told to get bowl of warm water and lean over it placing boob in for a few mins. Gravity and warm water would make bleb appear and then you could try scraping off gently with clean finger nail or wash cloth.

The tissue might still be inflamed surrounding block. Try nurofen. If poss stay indoors and rest til this has cleared so you don't get mastitis.

I went to the GP Mon & she just gave me a prescription for nipple balm. :( Tried explaining that's not the issue - it's not on the surface, it's a duct I think...that's my gut feeling.

Super - what you describe is pretty much what I've experienced...I think I cleared it (no more hard patch in breast) last Friday morning, but it still burns almost 6 days on when my baby feeds. It's not unbearable pain, but it's certainly not the comfortable breastfeeding I've had for almost 8 months.

Anyway, hopefully it will eventually go in a few days. Not sure what else I can do!
