Posterior tongue tie- how can I get a diagnosis

Sorry this isn't really a breast feeding issue as dd is now 4 but wondered if you might be able to advise. Dd was tongue tied at birth and was snipped at 2 weeks old. You mean how can you diagnose if the tie is still there? I would say go to a good paediatric dentist and get them to take a look.

Since learning to talk she has always been quite unclear and still cannot say c or g sounds ( but I have no idea if this could be caused by tongue tie) . I have taken her to the dentist but he just looked I her mouth and said she stick her tongue out ok and then asked her to lift her tongue up which she couldn't do. He said he couldn't anything wrong? Does this sound like posterior tongue tie or am I barking up the wrong tree?

You could join one of the facebook tongue tie support groups and post some photos. That won't be a diagnosis, but you can tap into the knowledge and experience of the people on there.

It is possible to have both anterior and posterior ties. Perhaps an anterior was what was snipped at when she was wee and there is still a posterior there.

Feeding issues, gastric problems, difficulty with speech and difficulty lifting the tongue could very well be linked to a posterior tie.

DS1 was 5yo when we discovered his ties and I realised he had suffered a list of problems as long as my arm once I learned about the consequences of untreated tongue tie. I was poo pooed by the NHS and we had his ties lasered privately.

There are two dentists in the UK who trained with Dr Kotlow. One of them was only doing under 1s and over 6s the last I heard, but the other one does all ages. Google Malcolm Levinkind, he is North London.

Have you looked under her lip btw for a lip tie? Lip ties usually go hand in hand with a tongue tie, often a posterior one, or both anterior and posterior (DS1 had all 3)
