Sorry, I was saying my 9 month old does that and I was wondering whether that is normal?

Yes my DD did -she had tongue and lip tie so couldn't get a good latch. She would take down a lot of air and be quite unsettled.

TheGreatHunt, did it go away after the ties were removed?

DD had both lip tie and tongue tie laddered at 3 months but we suspect the tongue tie reattached straight away.

No it didn't - well not until she was a good bit older. Like you we had it snipped and it grew back partially. Her lip tie broke after a fall. From about 1 ish it got better and now at 2 it has disappeared. I had to wind her after each feed!

Yes and he had a tongue and lip tie. He also fed for hours at a time and sometimes seemed to fight the breast. I had some professional support to improve my positioning and it improved as his mouth and tongue got bigger. He feeds beautifully now at a year old. I chose not to get it snipped.

My dd did this. She had a tongue tie corrected and gradually her latch improved, the clicking has stopped completely now (she's 5.5 months).

She does sometimes but I think it's when the milk lets down and she slips, I take her off and out out her back on again as figure she's not latched quite right. No tongue tie or anything as far as I'm aware.

Could I ask where I should take my DD to get her lip tie seen please?

So far my Dr & H.V have said she hasn't got it, but they haven't heard of it! So how would they know.

She is 9 months & now has a gap between her teeth, I know she has it, but no one will help me.

I don't think people in the UK will do anything. You could try a dentist. My dd has a gap but I'd read that most kids break it when toddlers which is exactly what dd did.

There is a Facebook group where someone might be able to help.

she still wakes every 2 hours at night for a feed, it just all adds up, plus I can see it as clear as anything, also her Auntie has the gap, I will ask my dentist.

There are a couple of people in the UK that treat lip ties.

For London, look up Dr Malcolm Levinkind

For north, dr john Roberts in Huddersfield

Both above treat by laser.

There's a Facebook tongue tie support group where you can post a pic of your LOs lip tie and they can tell you if it is that.

I just want to say that if there is a lip tie, there is almost certainly a tongue tie in case anyone reading this needs to know!

Mawbroon - thank you, I asked the midwife to check for Tongue when DD was born due to horrendous problems with BF, she said No. Makes me wonder now, I will see if I can check for it.

Mello - I would certainly get another opinion on tongue tie. There is a massive thread on here full of people who were told over and over that there was no tongue tie, only to find out later that there was. I think somebody had 7 differnet HCPs tell them no tie until they found one who knew what they were doing

Posterior tongue ties get missed by many, many HCPs who don't know how to identify it. If they don't know what they are looking for, then the tongue can look completely normal.

If at all possible, I would recommend either of the dentists named earlier - Malcolm Levinkind or John Roberts. They both trained with Dr Kotlow who is a world leading expert (have a google!)

Mine did because of posterior tongue tie.

He was in agony with wind and reflux because of taking in all that air (bad latch) and it improved by about 60% after he had his tongue tie cut. I suspect we'd have possibly had better results if we'd been diagnosed sooner, as it was as though he needed to learn how to latch all over again and old habits die hard.

But as grew older it seemed to improve and now he doesn't click at all. He's 8 months and I'd say hasn't clicked since about 5/6 months old.

To those querying whether tongue tie be released in the UK, it can and is much more common than you think. There is a place in Southampton hospital that specialises if you don't live in the far north places mentioned above.

Ours was missed by local hospital but should apparently have been checked at birth. It was picked up by a lactation consultant in a free breastfeeding group.

Oh sorry! Missed that. Yeah lip tie is more unheard of and I have no knowledge of who you can go to for that.

There are a couple of dentists named further back on the thread who will deal with lip ties if appropriate.
