How much did your baby weigh at birth/how much did they lose?

My daughter was 6lb 8oz.

She dropped to 5lb 11oz.

I think that might be 11% birthweight drop. We had to stay in hospital due to this, anyway.

She gained only grams for a few days to be honest.

My sister has had a similar thing happen with her baby boy. I was solely breastfeeding and so was she, although the weight drop was after a few weeks with Dsis and was within first week for me.

I was just wondering how it worked for everyone else and when it evened out.

My eldest weighed 6lb4.5 at birth and had put on 8/9oz by first weigh in

Second weighed 7lb6.5 at birth and weighed 6lb9 at first weigh in and 6lb8 at 20 days - a 17.5% loss We ended up topping up - first with formula then EBM and got back to excl direct bf at 8 weeks. it was pretty worrying at the time. I think he was just very sleepy - had pethidine not long before he was born by EMCS

Mine were

8lb 7oz,,9lb 3oz, 9lb 6oz, 10lb 13oz and 8lb, by the time they were signed on day five? They had all gained weight, but I think I am unusual in that respect I had masses of milk pretty Mich straight away and they fed constantly.

My son lost 15% in the first few days. Was awful. We struggled with breastfeeding and started topping him up with tiny amounts of formula. Phrases like 'failure to thrive' were bandied about by the midwife without any real help.

We eventually gave him bottles of formula and we now bf and fb.

He's still at the lower end of the weight charts but I don't care!

my mate has just had a daughter who was a few pounds heavier at birth who lost only a few ounces but put it back on overnight and at around 2 months old is almost the same weight as my 6 month old!

My DS was 6lb 3oz at birth. He was in NICU for 3 days (fed formula through a nasal tube which he kept throwing up but was then breastfed which is always kept down). He was just under 6lb at discharge I think. He had a tongue tie and struggled to feed after having it snipped and we had to top up with EBM (tried a couple times with formula but again he just threw it back up). At his lowest weight he went down to about 5lb 7oz and was almost 4 weeks old before he regained his birth weight.
He's 12 weeks now and EBF, he weighed in today at 10lb 11oz so doing really well after a difficult start.

8lb 6 at birth. Down to 7lb day 5. A few days in hospital and formula topups for about a week. Than back to ebf. Running on 50th centile and still bf at 16 months.

8lb 2oz and she dropped 55g. However when I first got her weighed at 4 weeks she was "only" 8lb 13oz. No idea what she weighs now at early 6 weeks. Will find out next week. So long as she's still gaining and happy then I'm not bothered. Even if the HV says otherwise.

7lb3oz at birth, lost 11% of his birthweight, took 3 weeks to regain it. Was v worried but no health professionals mentioned ff, I think they are v pro bf round here. After starting on solids at 6 mo he jumped from the 9th centile to the 91st!!

My LO was 6lb 6oz at birth (4 weeks premature and dropped down to 5lb 8 oz at a week old. We then had to go back to hospital for jaundice treatment - lights and formula top ups. I ended up mixed feeding until week 10 and then exclusively formula feeding. However, he then gained weight very steadily - at his last weigh in (22 weeks) he had caught up with his birth centile (75th centile) and he is now a very happy healthy boy!

5lb13oz, dropped 10.3% of birth weight to 5lb3oz by day three - non-latching baby so weight loss was kind of expected. Began expressing with an electric pump that day, then latched three weeks later with shields. She was back to her birth weight on Day 11. Managed to avoid any formula top ups, and she has stayed pretty much bang on the 9th centile since - she is now three months old.

DD born at 5.7, dropped to under 5. No FF top ups as I was bloody minded determined to feed her myself and breast fed plus expressed. We got there in the end and I think she regained birth weight by 3 weeks. She was jaundiced, but again scraped by with no treatment.

She is now 7 and no hint of any impact of this!

DS was born at 8lb 6oz and lost 10%. He was pretty jaundiced and had to go in a light box for a while but no one mentioned formula or topping up. I can't remember when he regained his birth weight, but he slowly dropped centiles from 75th at birth to about 25th by 4 months and has stayed between the 50th and 25th ever since.

My understanding is that they are "allowed" to lose 10% before any one gets concerned. DC1 lost 10% by day 5 so we had another check on day 7 and she'd gone up a bit and then continued to gain rapidly, averaging 10oz a week. DC2 weighed the same on day 5 as his birthweight and had put on 7oz by day 10 but then only put on 6oz or so a week.

3kg at birth and lost 15% over the first 10 days at which point we started mixed feeding.
I'm not in the UK so although this was the cut off point for ebf it wasn't a great concern as he was still healthy and gained well in 24hrs with formula top ups.

He is 20weeks and about 8.6kgs, now and has been on the 95% since about 4 weeks old.

DD was 8lbs 12oz and lost about 3oz. Ebf since birth. She has been in the 98th centile more or less constantly, now 5months and 19.5lbs. I realise we are very lucky it has gone so smoothly.

7lb 4.5oz at birth (5 days late and a baby girl). Dropped down to 9th percentile and continued to follow that. 11lb 15oz at 16 weeks so she is quite a small baby

Ds weighed 9lb and lost nothing. Dd weighed 10.9 oz and lost 12ozs, but within the 10% so fine. Both formula fed.

My daughter weighed 7lb 6oz, we exclusively breastfed and on day 5 she had lost 12.5% of her body weight. I wasn't asked to go back to hospital with her, I would have refused anyway.

Weighed again on day 7 and she had gone back up to just below her birth weight.

Midwife was more than happy with that.

Ds - 5lb 15 oz- by 10 days had gained 9 oz
Dd 7lb 2oz by 10 days had gained 6 oz.

No weight loss, but with my first we babymooned for a week.
