Hi all,
I'm new here so apologise if this is in the wrong topic group or if a thread on this is already going.

My DD is 10weeks old, she was given Infant Gaviscon from about 4/5 weeks for acid reflux as she was being incredibly sick often bringing up entire feeds and milk curdling in her tummy. Although it seems to keep most of the milk down now she still gets very upset during feeds when getting winded and is still quite sick sometimes, I have tried letting her have more milk between winding but she brings it back up and have tried feeding her 30mins early so she doesn't cry before her milk but to no avail :(

she sleeps through the night approx. 7/8 hours and is very good natured when settled so my HV is not concerned but she wasn't worried about the constant vomiting and seems to have a "babies just cry because they're babies" attitude. I had to go to my GP before I was taken seriously, everyone else just sees a young first time mother who doesn't know anything when I'm a mum who knows the difference between a bit of crying and when her baby is screaming because she is sore.

I'm currently feeding her 4 times a day 6oz each time any advise from anyone who may have had a similar experience would be very much appreciated :D

Go back to your GP and ask for Ranitidine.

Feeding little and often, often helps reflux babies. Remember her tummy it's only the size of her fist.

thanks for the reply MigGril :)

have tried giving less milk per feed but DD just cries for her bottle, she knows the difference between bottle and dummy - too smart for her own good :P

Hungry Baby + Reflux is a bad combo Shock

Our LO also has reflux, and he takes gaviscon and ranitidine, which has helped somewhat, but yesterday and today he has been a bit more sicky for some reason. The gaviscon helps keep the feed down but ranitidine is an antacid, so when he is sick, its not so painful. A combination of both might help her.

Our LO seems to do the vomiting when laid down...is this the same for you or does she vomit regardless? I find keeping LO elevated for 30 mins after feeds to be useful.

Reflux is such a nightmare, I've been in tears at our dude crying and being sick as I feel so helpless. X

Domperidome (sp?) would help with the vomit. Go back to your GP.

My dd had terrible reflux as a baby and we found that moving her to comfort milk (Aptamil) together with the gaviscon worked best for her (and us) and we then had a contented baby. Only issue was teat size, we had to move to a variflo teat as the milk with Gaviscon was too thick to go through anything else.

Thanks for all the advise :)

I keep DD upright during and 20-30mins after feeds and still sometimes vomits quite badly, last couple of days have been better and she has only been posseting a little like most babies, I really hope it's the start of her tummy being able to handle her milk, but if it continues I'll be going back to GP for something else or ask if switching milk would be best.

MissRatty - I know what you mean, I was a wreck at the beginning when she wasn't sleeping and hardly keeping down any of her feeds so worrying and nobody prepares you for the guilt :(
