Dd has just been prescribed nutramigen by the doctor, up until now she has been ebf. Before we found out she was allergic to cows milk formula we tried every brand, she wouldn't drink any of them. We didn't really persevere as they all gave her a rash anyway but I am predicting a hoo ha when we try this new formula. Before anyone suggests I carry on bf, I have to go back to work in the new year working 10 hour shifts (with one 1 hour break) at least 3 days a week and I already struggle to express. Any advice would be appreciated on how to introduce it and maybe how to stop breastfeeding. Thanks in advance! X

You could try adding a drop of vanilla.

She took 2oz yesterday before she batted it away and cried for boob. Thanks for the advice, I'll try the vanilla because it really does taste bad.

We had problems trying to get our son to take Neocate as it's so disgusting. After 14 hours of him refusing it, he eventually drank a 50:50 mix of formula/breast milk. After that first bottle there were no problems - every day I reduced the amount of breast milk by 10ml until after 10 days or so there was just formula.

Thanks folks, just tried 1 part formula 6 parts breast milk and she still only took two ounces! I didn't think it tasted that bad this time! Will go back to the drawing board and reduce it further!

To intoduce the taste of nutramigen you could start by mixing some nutramigen in her food, instead of water..in cereal, puréed fruit etc

Hi there. We went through the exact same challenge to get our DD onto Nutramigen at 8mths. She was also ebf up to that point. Let's face it, Nutramigen tastes and smells terrible. The way we did it was to make bottles with expressed breast milk and Nutramigen mixed together. We started out with c. 80% breast milk and over the course of a couple weeks gradually reduced the amount of breast milk and increased the amount of Nutramigen. She eventually got used to the taste and was fine with 100% formula after that.
