Can tongue tie grow back?

As above really, positive dd's (10 weeks) has grown back, shallow latch, sometimes painful, strong suck turning quickly into her constantly slipping off, clicking or air sucking, dribbling milk out of the corner of her mouth..
Or if any of the above are indicative of something else (she is teething)

It was snipped mid October with some improvement but seems to have gradually gone downhill again, I haven't noticed or raised it with anyone yet as thought it was a mixture of teething and reflux, even though it was practically glaring me in the face ..

Anyone had experience of this? Will they cut it again?

Yes it can - hopefully someone will be along with more experience in the morning but I would definitely go back and get it looked at again.

Yes - sorry. DD's grew back twice! We left it after the third procedure - although she could finally drain me after the third attempt (laser), it's just still uncomfortable for me.

Yes I think that's what alerted me to it apart from the slipping off, the feeling of not being completely drained

Yes - or rather they re-attach/ heal. I had DD done 3 times then gave up as it persisted in healing back. It was never as bad as before the snips though and we're still bf at 7.5 months. Around 4 months was tough as she was very unsettled at the breast, but at around 5 or 6 mo it suddenly just got easy-peasy and effortless so I'm glad I persevered through the difficult phases.

Oooh, that makes me feel hopeful. Ds is 4 months and it's been awful for the past 5-6 weeks, only sleeping for an hour ish at a time at night. Thanks for giving me hope it can improve

Honestly I've put it down to just about everything else, dd1 and ds2 had it with dd1 not being snipped, she has speech problems now though so glad I have had dd and ds done (dd1 is nearly 20 and you can hear it in her speech esp if she speaks quickly)
Part of me hates the thought of dd going through it again esp as she's now 10 weeks old, think she'll struggle to forgive me lol - but this I think will be the last time I try, and only because it's affecting feeding, or I wouldn't bother. Poor dd

Fwiw I found bf a struggle with every baby even ds1 who wasn't tt, and it was at around the ten week mark when everything seemed to suddenly 'click' into place. Luckily I live in a place where breastfeeding is highly supported, breastfeeding helplines and buddies ect so it's all good. Shame though that they seem to think you don't need as much support if you've bf before because every baby is different and we all pick up bad habits

Hi, both of my children had 75% TT. First frenulotomy was on NHS, second was done privately where they actively encouraged frenulum massage to avoid it growing back. Not sure if you were advised to this? The consultant I saw did lots of research at Kings College and said massage had shown to improve correct healing. Saying that I decided not to massage due to other health issues we were dealing with at the time - it has healed quite tightly but much improved from 75%. Best of luck with the next procedure.

Ooh no I wasn't told about the massage bit.. I would have worried that it would hurt dd tbh but if it helps I'll do it, thanks, will enquire about it as the lady who does it also has a private practice.

She did keep pulling dd's chin/bottom lip down while she was feeding as she almost had a closed mouth while feeding. It's a shame I couldn't spend longer there, it was very helpful, guess we all can't have a lactation consultant on tap tho lol

Ha, yes I came up with the same searches no doubt ;) Whoops...
I think the massage thing is controversial and some are for and some against. I think it can be sore for them and they suggest using dentinox teething gel whilst you firmly rub it to limit any pain. We didn't do it as we were already applying daktarin 4 times a day for thrush and saline spray for a cold and I just couldn't face trying to remember the massage as well and put more fingers in the mouth! LC should be able to advise though - good that she is private as well as prob knowledgable on the massage and studies.

Thanks well I will definitely be asking as p has said he noticed that up until last week dd was sticking her tongue out, as it was done mid October I'm a bit puzzled at how long it's taken to reappear .. But it's definitely there. I'm hoping this will be the last time so if I have to massage it then so be it, I feel so sorry for her the poor little mite has been through the mill

Just to say thank you and an update. It had grown back, 25% posterior tie and quite tight - devastating to hear her cry as it was snipped again but then she fell asleep so it was all good. Feeding fine so far and appears to be in no pain, tt was harder to cut tho as the LC said it was scar tissue x
