7 week old, combination feeding 15-17 times/24 hours

DD is now 7 weeks & after a rough start (feeding issues, hospitalisation, tongue tie, breast thrush for me) is now feeding well - a bit too well! She has approx 15-17 feeds over 24 hours, around three of which are bottles (when i have run dry). I am exhausted, and have just googled to read it should be 7-9 feeds! Is that right? And if so how can I get her to feed better but less often? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

It's not what Gina ford says but it is totally normal!!!
Big developmental time, growth spurts etc
Comfort and cluster feeds
Is she/he collicy? If so extra winding and special bottles

sleepdodger · 03/12/2013 00:15

And thus phase will pass Wink

Hi dodger, thanks for your reply

Yes, she's always been very windy, i spend a minimum of five minutes winding per boob/bottle. Initially she hung on to it for dear life but now will usually burp if I give her infacol and do a pattern of 50 clockwise back rubs, 50 anticlockwise, 100 back pats, and repeat again if needed. Am using avent bottles with anti colic rings, not sure if they make a difference though...

get rid of the avent bottles! i had these and they were useless. as soon as i switched to dr browns i had a different baby, hardly any burps or wind, much more contented and satisfied.

OP I'm pleased to see your post as my LO, 7+5, is also feeding about this much. I record about 12-15 feeds a day, but some of these are quite stop start so could probably count as more. I'm EBF which I don't know if it makes any difference.
Everyone says do what your instinct says so I'm following that advice. Congratulations and good luck!! I'mlooking forward to this incessant feeding ending though, it is lovely but tiring and somewhat inconvenient! x

Kelly - thank you, I will try that. It never occurred to me it could be the bottles - doh!

Kiki - thank you too... misery loves company! While not exactly miserable, you're right its very tiring & I'm scared to make any plans as some days she just wont stop feeding long enough for me to even shower before late afternoon! Its like an all day boob buffet. ...
