anyone used dr browns or omneo comfort? any good?

ive been recommended dr browns bottles and omneo comfort for any future pregnancies i have as both my children suffered badly with colic, screaming all day, not just at night, constipations to the point of having to use suppositries every couple of days and projectile vomiting! nice combination but ive looked on the internet and it now seems omneo comfort has less lactose and could help with this and dr browns are supposed to be the best.anyone tried these? already tried avent etc and at the time my doctor etc said changing milk wouldnt help, what did he know?????

Dr. Browns are fab for vomiting /wind problems, although they are a b**r to wash up. We used lactose-free milk (by SMA) for a while for dd1 as she got so gassy it was painful to watch, and then switched to Aptimil at about 5 mo.

thanks.can i use a lactose free one right from the start or do i need to consult doctor etc first? thought of omneo as i can buy that and use it straight after birth rather than wait for the symptoms to appear.is aptimil low lactose?

I lvoe my dr browns - my Jess was a nightmare on bog standard bottles - reflux/colic/sick you name it. Switched becky to dr browns at 2 weeks old and WOW - instantly a different baby - no more wind issues and now at 9months she will not drink out of any other bottle!

i know i must seem to be worrying without cause as every child is different but i want to be prepared and try right from the start to prevent it all happening.it wont harm the child to be on that milk or those bottles, im just being cautious.what milk are you using with the bottles? read that sma gold has 7.? lactose and omneo has 2.9 or something like that.apparently lactose can cause the screaming etc even if the baby hasnt got diarhoea, unlike what i was told when mine were little and doing it.amazing what 4 years can do to research isnt it!

You do need a docotr's permission to use lactose free milk and I would use it as a last resort as it smells like pants. But it is good to know it's there. My dd1 needed it after a cold caused her to swallow snot which damaged her tummy - her symptoms were major wind and distended tummy. Aptimil is low-lactose too but I don't know how low. We did try the omneo comfort one when dd1 was really bad but she did need a couple of months of no lactose at all before she could have a little. These days her favourite dinner is cheesy pasta so they can grow out of it!

Have you tried contcting an allergy helpline for advice?

When I say you need a docor's permission, mine said, 'try what you like' so I did my own research and this is what worked. I ordered it from a chemist and the doc actually refused to give us a prescription for it even though dd1 was helped so much by it.

havent no.its looking back when i wish i'd tried a low lactose milk. i asked over and over again if it could be that but kept getting told that if there was a problem with lactose then they wouldn't be constipated, they'd be the opposite.now i keep reading that lactose is associated with the symptoms that they both had.think i'll try a low lactose one next time and see how it goes.now im on internet im more informed and prepared for any rubbis they try to tell me! im more determined that it was allergy/intolerance that made my first son like it as he's had other allergies since such as sun rash from even slight exposure without factor 50 suncream!!, he's also allergic to cats and dogs, he comes out in a rash all over and really wheezy which the doctors told me since he was little was viral and asthma, we have since found out that its not! been kept away from pets for over a year now and what a suprize, no asthma and no rash! i think these doctors get their licenses off the back of a cereal box sometimes! thanks for the reply.

Dd1 was constipated too, but not badly. Hope everything goes okay.

I've always only used Dr Browns and my son never suffered a bit from colic, yes they are a bit of a pain on the washing up, but you get used to it. I also only used goeats milk formula and now fresh goats milk. Maybe something to consider when you're looking at different types of formula.

If they do suffer from allergies, why not try breastfeeding ?

There is lactose in breastmilk too.

I have bfed one baby and not been able to with two which is really hard. I don't question why other people don't bf as I know how painful it can be trying to explain.

I have used Dr bottles with both of mine. We had no problems with colic with ds but had 8wks with dd. I think they are wonderful bottles. The teats are soft and narrow and I found that as newborns they sucked better with the Dr brown bottles than for example Avent. However, they are a pain to wash.

Both of mine are cow's milk protein intolerant and we both wrongly diagonised as lactose intolerant which lead to me giving up breastfeeding. We had the same syptoms as you have experience: wind, bloating, constipation, screaming and reflux.

Omneo Comfort only contains whey protein which is partially broken down and is easier for babies to digest so helps in some cases of milk intolerance. We sucessfully used it with ds for 2mnths (at 8mnths) but then he started to react to it. With dd I used it from the start (was breastfeeding and topping up with formula) but her system is a lot more sensitive than ds so she reacted to it immediately.

thankyou for your responses.i will look everything up and decide whats best when we do try for another baby.just want to be well informed so we can try to eliminate anything that might upset the new baby.unfortionatly i cant breastfeed as i was bitten across the chest by a rottweiler and my milk doesnt produce properly now.alo i was advised that breastmilk also contains high amounts of lactose so i think id probably be better trying the dr browns.thankyou

not my dog by the way, and the dog has since been put to sleep because of the incidence.
