"Extended" breastfeeders - when did you stop and why?

Am still feeding 20mo ds and have been asked AGAIN today when I am thinking of stopping. I don't have any plans but just wondered why other people had stopped? Did you just wait for ds/dd to want to stop or did you stop for some other reason?

dd1 stopped of her own accord at 19 months.

I'm interested to see how many others on this thread stopped at approx that age. I wonder if that's a common age for babies to self wean and if so, why?

I was pregnant but well into the 3rd trimester by then so I don't think it was that.

ds was 4, stopped by me-very easy. dd nearly 3, still feeding, aim to stop soon as I've had enough.

I'm still feeding number 4 (18 months) but the first three gave up so gradually I barely even noticed it. They just did it less and less until one day I noticed they hadn't done it for a while and concluded they must have stopped. Now and again they'd return after, say, a bad fall or a major upset.

The three of them stopped gradually between the ages of 2 and 3.5-4. But after 2 they probably weren't even feeding once a day.

Ignore any pressure from anyone else. YOU and your child are the only people in the world with any valid opinion on this matter.

Still feeding DS (2 yrs old) & will continue to do so for as long as he needs/wants me to. I have really had any bad comments about it & tbh wouldnt care if I did - none of their business

I stopped with DS at 18mo, the day before my amnio. I get really strong BHs from quite early in pregnancy and I didn't want to risk anything that might contribute to a miscarriage. I was gutted when I told DS that boofy was all done and he quickly asked for a biscuit. Never bothered him.

I stopped when DS1 was 22m, and I was 22w pg with no.2. It was just getting really sore to feed him, and we were down to one feed a day. I offered him a cup of milk instead, and he never asked to feed again. Partly about that, partly it was sooo easy after all the horror stories I'd heard.
