EBF 2.5mth-old suddenly regressed - don't know what to do!

TT was cut about three weeks ago - feeding (which had initially been dreadful) had been slowly improving before then anyway and was best about two weeks ago. I think him getting bigger and us both getting better-practiced at bf made the most difference, although I suspect the TT division helped.

Within the last week he seems to have regressed quite a bit - his latch has worsened again (v shallow) and he's suddenly become very fidgety whilst on the boob. He seems to get very easily distracted - even if he latches on well, he bobs around so much and thrashes about (with my boob still in his mouth) that after a minute or two he's only sucking the nipple and I have to take him off again to try and relatch him. After this happens a few times he's so frustrated that we have to stop, have a few minutes of burping and then try again on the other side.

Any advice or recommendations very gratefully received! (I go to a Bfeeding support group but it's so busy that I never get to speak to the LC! My next LLL meeting isn't for a few weeks either.)

I'm no expert but I do know that tongue ties can sometimes readhere and cause problems again (happened to my friend). Could it be that? Could you call the lll or another helpline to see if that might fit or if there are other possibilities? That way you'd hopefully know who to go to next Smile

Thanks Glorious! It had crossed my mind that it might have grown back but I was kind of burying my head in the sand a bit...although to be honest I can tell that his thrashing around is definitely causing some of the problems at the moment, I think separately from the TT.

I don't blame you! Smile

They do tend to get annoyingly distractable, and I guess if the latch is quite new after the tongue tie revision it could just be a case of it being easily disrupted. I reckon if you were to manage to see the lc at your group then an observed feed would help get to the bottom of it. They are always so busy though aren't they.

I am having this issue, though not so badly, so interested in the replies. No TT issues that i know of. My HV suggested a muslin over her head to stop distraction but she does it even when her eyes are closed so I don't think it is that.

I find it help if I hold my boob - am feeding rugby hold. Also burping more often. But still sometimes she still does it. Is painful when she bobs off and re-latches in a shallow way.
