12 months - desperate to wean...HELP!!

DD is 12months. I had always planned to feed for a year (I did my DS) but she clearly isn't gonna to take this news well and I have no idea where or how to start!

Problems:

  • she wakes every night (see my sleep thread!) and ends up in our bed by 1am. She clearly smells the milk and gets upset if I don't feed her. We all need the sleep (and I'm weak on this!) so I feed her.
  • she doesn't eat a proper breakfast as she has 'snacked' on milk repeatedly in the night
  • she has only ever fallen asleep at night by being fed.
  • she sometimes still wants milk mid morning and/or about 3ish

I know I have made a rod for my own back but I need to stop now and I have no idea where or how to start!

Please help me!!

I'm in a similar position with my almost 10mo DS. Not going to wean off completely yet but will want to soon but he is the same - only wants boob to get him back to sleep throughout the night and doesn't care much for breakfast. I decided not to worry too much about brekkie as he will eat a decent amount at around 10/11am instead. And he wants feeding mid-morn and mid-afternoon if I let him but if he's not with me (as he won't be when I'm back at work in a couple of weeks) he doesn't seem bothered if he doesn't get milk.

But the night feeding - I'm at a loss. We've actually totally given in and are buying a bigger bed to do cosleeping & feeding. Can I ask, why do you need to stop completely? I'm not being one of "those moms" I just wondered, if it's easier, why not just carry on, maybe when she's older it'll be easier to distract her with other things... so I've heard anyway!
