Advice needed about how to avoid underarm lumps when milk comes in

I'm due dc3 in about 2 weeks and am dreading the first few weeks of breast feeding again.

I always manage to get lumps under my right underarm that hurt like hell. It's not mastitis or anything, just blocked milk ducts that I have no idea how to get rid off.

Last time I tried hot compresses but apparently that's wrong? Should I be rubbing them with ice or something?

I can already feel them developing and really want to avoid them. If anyone has any advice can you please tell me, as they're painful and it's just making me dread day 3 even more.

TIA

I got these op, I sympathise, they are very sore. Not sure what you can do to avoid them if you are prone. Not very helpful sorry!

That's ok! It's actually nice to know someone else gets them too.

The first time the midwife told me to rub downwards in a hot shower, and it works for about half an hour and then they build up again.

I'm wondering if I should feed the baby twice on the right and once on the left to keep the milk flowing. Ugh.
