Gah! Forgot to chill my milk...

I would be grateful of some advice from you seasoned expressers.

Yesterday, I started trying to build up a milk stockpile in my freezer. I expressed 60ml and froze it in a breast milk bag. Today I expressed another 50ml and put that on top in the same bag before putting it straight back in the freezer. Only I didn't realise that you're supposed to chill it first.

Will I have to throw the whole lot away now? Am finding the whole expressing process rather like getting blood out of a stone so I hope not. Sad

I never chill it first, my expressed milk goes into the freezer in 2oz portions still at body temperature layed flat in a breast milk bag and is frozen very quickly.

OP why are you putting new milk in the same bag as previously frozen milk? I find that freezing milk in portions which are smaller than necessary means defrosting is faster/easier and leads to less wastage. I give DD 2oz at a time and if she's still hungry I open another bag.

I had read that you can add fresh BM to frozen in the same container within a 24 hour period (but not noticed the bit about chilling first). Reason why I'm doing it that way is that my parents are going to have to look after DS for a whole day in a few weeks, so I wanted to be able to give them proper "portions" of BM rather than have them faffing around with tons of different bags. I might just ditch that plan and use your approach though, Cavort.

Twinnies10, I think if you just do one lot, it can go straight in the freezer. The issue is that apparently if you put the fresh on top of the frozen, it can partially defrost the frozen. That said, when I went to look in the freezer, having posted this last night, it didn't seem to have done that, so I may just stop stressing! Smile
