Suddenly demanding daytime breastfeeds - what's going on?

DD2 is 15mths and for several months now has only been having breastfeeds first thing in the morning and just before bed at night. She has been perfectly happy with this, and has never seemed interested in feeding during the day.

For the last week though she has suddenly started sticking her hands down my top or pulling it up, and indicating that she wants a feed. I have let her feed a few times but tbh don't really want to take what I feel to be a backward step. She's also done it in totally inappropriate places, such as at the supermarket checkout!

If I can quickly distract her then all is fine but otherwise, if I refuse to feed her then she gets quite upset.

I don't really mind in principle but the times that I have given in to her it has affected her appetite for her "proper" meals so don't really want to encourage her.

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas why she might be doing it?

Attention-seeking, maybe, if it's happening at places where you aren't paying her much attention - at the checkout and so on?

Or maybe she's feeling a bit insecure about something and is after the comfort.

Don't think it's attention seeking as it happens just as much when we are at home on our own together.

She is teething - could it be that maybe? (ie. wanting the comfort if she is in pain).

my dd is exactly the same.she was feeding around 4 or 5 times a day,but for the last few months it seems that she is constantly on me!

hv said its a comfort thing i should put my foot down and say no when she tries.4 months later its still going on!

she also screams in the middle of tesco taht she wants a booby and yanks my top up or down.alos if im holding her and talking to someone her hand slides down my top and she rummages around for my nipples!

sorry i havent got any advice for you,but just wanted to know taht your not the only one with this problem!

ive been trying to stop bf for ages now,but if i refuse her a feed she screams to the point that she'll make herself sick.

i'll be keeping an eye on this thread for any advice you get!!

shes 2 at the end of next month.ive been wanting to stop bf for what seems like years!!shes got cf and i was told to bf for as long as poss because its easier for her to digest.so i did.

i planned on stopping when she was a year old but the specialists asked me to continue as she couldnt tolerate cows milk.

now im at the end of my tether as she is constantly on me and is so demanding.she wont go to anyone else, not even dh,and she doesnt sleep either.she wakes for a feed between 5-8 times a night.

sorry to moan!!

buffy - sorry, had to rush off earlier as dd woke up and haven't had a chance to log back on again since.

Didn't want to you think I was being rude !

Poor you - you must be exhausted with your dd - sleep deprivation is horrible. My "problem" pales in comparison with what you are going through, I think you are fully entitled to have a moan!
