hi my 4 wk old dd2 had a r angry looking red rash with white heads on it on her forehead. i took her to doc who said it was eczema and prescribed aveeno cream. it has gone on her forehead but she has red blotches all over her face now and behind her ears and on her head. could this be a reaction to sma gold. a few people have seen her face and said it could be the milk and to change to farleys or cow&gate. the hv advise against changing the milk but i dont know why they say that. my worry is that she drinks sma r well and i dont know whether she would if i changed the formula milk. any advice/help needed please. xx

My dd was on SMA gold she also had a rash of 'milk spots' (like white heads) all over her nose and forehead. The rash cleared after a couple of weeks. I stuck with SMA gold until she was about 9months and she was fine. I'm sure that it is nothing to worry about and I would stick with SMA gold.

Don't change the milk, they are all pretty much the same. If she reacts to SMA she will react to C&G and Farley's.

Ds is 9 weeks old, and his face is only just clearing up, but it is getting better. Just keep using the cream.

If it's a reaction to cows milk, then she will be the same whatever you choose....but it sounds as if it is basically harmless anyway. Lots of babies get those spots, inc. breastfed babies.

OTOH, changing the milk is something that is 'forbidden' but for no good reason, IMHO!

thanks 4 all your comments-i think that as the aveeno cream has cleared up her spots on her forehead it cant be the sma milk otherwise they would still be there. the aveeno cream doesnt seem to be clearing up the red blotches on her face but i will carry on using it and hope they get better in time. has anyone had these spots spread to the lo's body?

My Newborn was on Farleys and had the same reaction on face, ears and lower body too (everywhere but legs) she was in Special care at the time (Not because of milk)!! everybody said it wasn't the milk but when i got her home i changed it to Cow & Gate Organic and the whole lot cleared up within 24 hours!!

Change the milk if you want to - you'l never know if you don't! I would even if its for the day, SMA has got a bad reputation though most people i know who have tried it have had problems.

Good Luck
