If you let your DC self wean from BF, when did they?

That's it really.

My DS is 2.4 and feeds roughly 6 times in 24 hours; before (and during) nap, at bedtime, before I come to sleep (we co-sleep), about twice during the night and in the morning. I'm just wondering when he might stop.. He never asks during the day otherwise.

About 2.5, but she was down to one or two a day by that point. Then she just went off it.

Three children, all stopped about age 2.6

25 months and still going here...

Thought she would've stopped by now.

We're normally once a day (morning) but more recently it's increased again to more like 3-4 times a day.

Watching with interest

The normal age of weaning could be anything between 4 and 7. In our culture I suspect a lot of people get to around two or three. Lots of of 'normal' actions lead to weaning that looks like self self weaning. We are at 34 months here, maybe 4 feeds over 24 hours, and I don't see that reducing any on his part any time soon unless I start to distract him or spend more time out and about.

Are you keen to wean op? It's ok if you do. Longer term nursing has to work for both of you.

I forced the issue as was getting fed up! He was about 3y 3m.

Oops just read all of your post. I'd guess that your lo very strongly associates nursing with going to sleep, and he's unlikely to just stop of his own accord any time soon as those tend to be the very last feeds to go. But you can change things if you want to, depends how much you want to. I night weaned at 26 months, so we only nurse bedtime, morning and a couple of times through the day.

Dd1 "self-weaned" at 14 months but looking back I think it was a nursing strike and she would have gone back to it if I'd offered it again.

Dd2 was 2y 5m. She'd been down to just once a day for a while before that as I work full time and I'd night weaned at about 18 months so i could function properly during the day. One night she just told me she didn't need boobies because she was a big girl that doesn't stop her wanting to fondle them as she fall asleep even now at 3y 8m

About 3.5 for both but with some encouragement from me. They both still like to hold a boobie at tired or distressed times.

Remembering - I have the same! DS1 was weaned at 10 months so doesn't but DS2 always wants to access a boob when he's upset

DS1 didn't self wean, I had to tell him that he was done. He was 7yo

DS2 is still going strong at 3.5yo

My ds is 33 months and would breatfeeds all day given the opportunity.

Lovely to hear so many different stories! I don't know anyone in RL, who breastfeeds their toddlers or older kids, so it's always encouraging to see I am not the only one..

Just to clarify, I am not looking to wean anytime soon, hence the term 'self-wean' in the title. I'm far too lazy to try weaning and I don't really want to anyway. Although I am starting to see that DS seems to indeed have a strong boob-sleep-association going on . Any change that might change on its own, or do I have to try night weaning at one point, I bet I'd be too lazy to even try the J Gordon method ..

To be honest, even the nighttime boobfests don't really bother me too much. I'm mainly concerned what might happen, if I get pregnant and we have another child. I don't think I'd be up to breastfeeding a newborn and a pre-schooler all night long!

Yes the reason DD2 was able to BF for so long was she learned to accept water in the night and she has no younger siblings.

I have DFs who's DCs fed to around 5 and one stopped to get her bed back and the other because a tall reception child and a new born is a bit awkward.
