Crawling baby bumped his face and split his frenulum (?)

Bit between upper lip and teeth in his mouth if that makes sense. Bled everywhere, bleeds everywhere everytime he buts his head on my shoulder etc. Been to a&e, Doctor says they don't stitch it, it will heal and just to hold compress on it if it bleeds again.

Poor DS was ok at first but now it's re-opened a few times and the Doctors had a poke of it - he's really swollen and sore (not infected, Doctor told me what to look out for).

He's so distressed, desperate to feed to sleep but it must be too sore. He's been ok with some fruit puree and yog, and some formula in a sippy cup but I don't know what to do with him at night if he wants to bf and can't?? Should I give calpol and ibroprophen?

Anyone else had this happen?

DS3 did this when he was crawling. The amount of blood Shock!
He was happier after only a few hours, I would give him calpol if he still seems unhappy at bedtime.

I'm sure if he wakes in the night, he will okay breastfeeding if he's sleepy. It will heal very quickly in his sleep.

I do remember how sick I felt when he did it & that I panicked a bit. He's my third as well, you'd think I'd have learnt!

Am sure he'll be on the mend soon. Smile

I gave ours frozen smoothies or ice lollies when they banged their mouths - was easier than trying to put ice on it, but obviously depends how old he is as you need to supervise so doesn't swallow big pieces.

I'd def give calpol and nurafen. It will bleed on and off. And swell and bruise impressively. It should also heal relatively fast with no further treatment.

My ds1 did this age 2 and it never re-joined. It's still desperate now aged 9! He was fine after 24 hours iirc.

Thanks all Smile The amount of blood totally panicked me Blush And then a mean man at NHS direct made me cry! (the A&E staff were lovely though) Anyway, he does seem a bit happier, he's had a bath and some calpol - going to try a bf again in a minute.
