Did you carry on expressing past a year?

DS is now one year old, and has been "not that fussed" about the expressed milk I've sent in to nursery for him for a few weeks now. So am thinking I won't bother expressing for murder to give him during the day.

Was thinking I'd be able to ditch the damned pump, but DP pointed out that DS is still quite enthusiastic about ebm from him in the evening if I'm back later than usual (about once a week or so) so I'm probably going to express a bit more for that - mainly as comfort rather than sustenance.

Just wondering how it's worked out for others - did you bother or did you just switch to cows milk? If you did carry on expressing, how long did you carry on for & did it get harder to get a worthwhile amount out?

Hi, I can't remeber exactly when it was but as my DS1 got less bothered by his milk at nursery I gradually decreased the amount I expressed so that we were pretty much in tune. When I could I tried to express a bit extra to freeze for the odd occassions when I was out late. Expressing certainly got harder as I reduced its frequency but DS1 would never drink cows milk he just rejected it. Eventually when he was about 20 months (and when I found out I was expecting again) I decided to drop his bf before bed but the only way I could do this initially was to swap it for chocolate milk - I then reduced the amount of chocolate in the milk over time so that in a couple of months he was finally drinking cows milk. I think if I could have switched to cows milk during the day earlier I would have (whilst keeping the BF at bedtime and in the morning as I loved our snuggle time) but DS1 was not having any of that!!

Thanks Newmum. DS will drink cows milk at nursery, not sure he'll take it off me at the mo. TBH if I'm there I tend to just feed him.

Oops, just spotted awful autocorrect in first para of my original post - the "murder" in my last sentence should be nursery!
