Am I being thick? Sterilising

I have a tommy tippee steriliser, which you have to put exactly 80ml of water in. So far so good.
My breast pump has to be totally dry before use apparently. The steriliser is sterile until lid is off. So how do you get everything dry and keep them as clean as possible!?
What am I missing?

Well, I just don't worry about either the "totally dry" or the fact that it may not be 1000% sterile after I've taken the lid off. I assume your baby was a term baby? So exposed to your household/and your skin germs anyway? Special precautions are applied if you're feeding a premmie. Otherwise I just wash my hands, shake most of the excess (sterile) water off the pump by waving it in the air, and put the bottle and flange etc together. Usually just before I express but if not I stand the whole thing up in a large glass till I'm ready to use it. I then make sure I'm giving a decent amount of milk in the bottle (my little one is now 4months, so that's 160ml) so if there was any (clean, sterile) water left in the bottle all it would do is dilute my milk by a tiny amount. She usually has only one bottle of expressed milk a day anyway - the rest is straight from me.

Thanks Al. Very sensible and sounds like pretty much what I'm doing already without being sure about it.
