moved from BF to formula/bottle - feeding too much/quickly?

Hi - we moved our 4mo from BF to formula this weekend due to cow's milk allergy (I was dairy free for 10 weeks, some improvements but we think he was also reacting to something else so couldn't keep second-guessing) and I just want to check a couple of things:
He guzzles down a whole bottle in 10 minutes on a slow teat (we started him on a medium teat but a bottle would be gone in 5 mins flat which seemed way too fast) but if I try to slow him down by taking the bottle away every so often he goes ballistic.
He's 19 weeks and according to the tin he should be having around 180ml - at the moment he's having around 195-205ml and even then he screams when I take the bottle away, but then a couple of minutes later he's perfectly happy. It's like he isn't giving himself time to realise he's full and it's only afterwards that he's content.
Is it because bottle feeding is easier so it's a bit of a novelty for him at the moment and he will settle down, or do I need to actively make sure he doesn't overfeed? Is it ok for a feed to last less than 10 mins? He doesn't seem overly windy/sicky so it doesn't seem to be bothering him to feed so quickly.
Sorry for the long message - don't really know anything about this bottlefeeding malarky!
Thanks
x

5 mins for a bottle is fine. My DS was about the same.

Your DS was probably doing much more comfort sucking on the boob than you realise.

And yes, I had same trouble with DS screaming after a huge bottle then find few mins later. If you're worried about the quantity he's taking, have you tried giving him just 180ml and seeing if he still stops crying?

Hi, thanks, it's good to know and you are right, there was a lot of comfort sucking so I suppose he has to get used to it just being about food now. I did as suggested and just gave him 180ml - he cried but was fine after a couple of mins which is the same as if I gave him 205ml, so at least I know I can limit him to the 180ml and his reaction is the same - he also had a sleep for an hour and a half which took his next feed to 4 hours later so the 180ml was obviously enough.

Mine guzzles a big bottle in about 5 mins too but would breastfeed for half an hour. If he cries after a bottle then I find a dummy for a minute or two helps - as you say it's as though it takes a while to realise he's full.

He seems to have settled down a bit now he's a few days in, and will pause a bit while feeding so he can enjoy the experience a bit more instead of gulping it all down in one go! Thanks x
