Ebf baby - Feeding forever to super speedy .....

DS is 20 weeks old. He arrived at 36 weeks and was only 5lbs, the first 10 -12 weeks of bf were pretty tough with very long feeds which took up hours and hours each day (and night!). Over the last few weeks he has got quicker and quicker to the point where the last few days most feeds are quite literally 3 to 4 minutes per side. He is quite adamant he doesn't want more! The only longer feeds are in the evenings and even they are only 10 mins per side.

I usually weigh him every 3 weeks and at his last weigh in a week ago he was gaining well (moving up a percentile) but every time feeds get shorter I think how can he feed that quickly?! Don't get me wrong it is so easy feeding him now but I can't help worrying now that it is so fast...

Anyone else with a super speedy feeder? He feeds every 2 hours during the day but will go up to 7 hours overnight.

Neither of mine fed for more than 10 mins after 6 weeks old (in face DS never fed that long to start with).

If the weight is fine and baby fine in himself, then it sounds like normal mum paranoia. They do get quicker over time, sometimes in big jumps.

I think sometimes we dwell and fixate on things we can control to deflect from other worries.

Thanks CP - I think your right I am worrying about nothing! He has never been one to go hungry and so far weight gain has not been affected by the reduction in feed times so hopefully that will continue. Frankly I can't believe my luck at the moment - we had a bit of a tough time in the first few weeks and now it is pretty easy!
