My nipples are really sore, but ds is 10 months!

I don't get it. He is a brilliant feeder, but in the last week my nipples have that pain like in the beginning when they have a "bruised" feeling to them, what's causing it? We're down to 4 feeds a day now. He is taking less, and doesn't seem as interested in all the feeds, (mid morn and mid aft) but we're not ready to cut them out yet. Can his latch change? Could he be getting lazy? I don't think I could do much about that, they pretty much do things how they want at this stage, don't they?! Anyone else had this?

Do you have breastpain between feeds? Could be thrush. You doc could give you an anti fungal cream for this.

bramblina · 06/06/2006 13:12

Not at all. I considered this but there is no sign of infection, no discharge, no colour change, just the same pain as establishing, localised to the nipple, not including the areola. It's just when he feeds, pulling on it. Or when I take my bra off and knock them by mistake, or in the shower, say.

Sounds like how my nipples felt when I was pregnantGrin

bramblina · 06/06/2006 20:16

That was also a consideration, though I have a coil so assume highly unlikely. I felt sick last week too, and really likened it to early pregnancy. Shock

Erm... I'm still hving the same nipple pain (see message below - there are a few of us!). I didn't consider being pg - although we're trying so that would be good Grin. Unlikely though.

I was also wondering if it's due to DSs teething which he's doing big style - he doesn't hyave any yet but the first 2 are getting fairly close.

laundrylover · 06/06/2006 22:30

Sounds exactly like my nipples last week but thrush gel is helping and they are not so painful now. It's mouth gel I was prescribed (choc orange flavour!) and babies need treating too (cherry for them!).
By the way no external signs for you or baby is normal according to my research...

bumbleweed · 07/06/2006 21:30

bramblina - I have just had exactly same problem but it cleared up about 3-4 days ago. I am 99% certain it is a kind of nipple trauma / bruising caused by dd changing her latch because she is fussing, distracted, teething. She is 7 months now - see my thread on this.

I did go to doctor to try to rule out thrush, but I am pretty sure it wasnt thrush - I just concentrated on latching dd better, positioning her body better, chin tucked in, wide mouth etc, and taking her off it she was tugging.

It is really horrid to be so sore - so I really hope yours gets better soon too.

suzi2 · 08/06/2006 20:25

I've got a faint BFP (although I'm sure AF is trying to come lol!) so I think that might be why my nipples are sore?

Twiga · 08/06/2006 20:49

Oooooo, looked at this yesterday coz have been having same trouble - dd teething and keeps pulling back as she's feeding - good job nipples are stretchy! Suzi2, how exciting - we're thinking about no2 soon as well.

suzi2 · 08/06/2006 21:09

lol - yep stretchy. I had no idea nipples were that stretchy until I had DS! Grin

bramblina · 10/06/2006 21:36

They're not so OUCH today so I think I agree with bumbleweed.

Suzi how exciting! Any update on the faint BFP? Grin don't leave us on the August thread! Though when you do have your lo you will be excused...!
As for stretchy- Wow! I had no idea they could go so far!

is ds teething on you?

foxinsocks · 10/06/2006 21:43

could it be PMT? my boobs get sore and I feel on and off nausea for the weeks between ovulation and period

bramblina · 10/06/2006 21:43

No, he's not a biter really though has on odd occasion. This pain just started last week and in a couple of days turned in to OW pain like the first few days of bfing. Think it's on it's way out now though. Thanks.

bramblina · 10/06/2006 21:50

Oh god foxinsocks you have just staed the obvious and I think you're right. I had a coil fitted about Feb and have not really got a proper cycle yet, but bled yesterday. Oh how stupid! Now I know what to look out for! Heavens that is a lot more painful than pre baby!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 10/06/2006 21:53

yes I found that too grrrr (something else that no-one tells you about before you have kids Wink)

hope it's not so bad next month - might have been particularly bad because you hadn't had a period for so long!

bramblina · 10/06/2006 22:08

Thanks again!
Really can't believe that! Blush

Suzi, how exciting! Even a faint BFP is a BFP I found. And when I was pregnant, I had a constant feeling for weeks that my period was starting. Ooooh, I'm so Envy

suzi2 · 11/06/2006 09:34

Thanks guys. It's a definate BFP now - so technically I'm 4wks and 3days. Very early days - and I'm not feeling very positive, not sure why!

Oddly enough, my nipples aren't sore anymore. So perhaps it was a PMS thing for me.

milward · 11/06/2006 10:02

wow suzi - congrats xxx

bramblina · 11/06/2006 15:03

Oh Suzi congratulations! Very brave for you with the lo only being wee- I look at my ds and think ooh I'd love another but how hard would it be? Best of luck for you and enjoy! Grin
