Newborn baby and Breastfeeding

Just after some advice really :)
Dc2 is 3 days old today, he's been feeding fine since he was born. My milk has come in today as well. Thing is, he only seems to feed for 5 mins max, day or night, then gets bored/goes to sleep. I've tried all usual waking up tactics to no avail, he's just not bothered! It's more frustrating at night as he makes massive feeding signals, latches on then has a go then stops. I don't remember first child dling this, but then also realise its only early days so maybe I'm worrying about nothing? He's pooing and weeing lots, and sleeps all day. Not night obviously :/

This sounds well within normal for a newborn, Neiffer :)

There would be normally no need to try to keep your baby awake to feed for longer (why would you do this? Your baby may well need to sleep, and interfering with this need is not good for him - you only need to do this if a baby is too small/weak/sick to keep himself awake).

He's only 3 days - plenty of time for this to change! Get him weighed in a couple of days and this will give you a good idea if he is transferring what he needs

On day 3, you'd expect him to come to the breast anything between 6 and 16 times in 24 hrs. Some babies are only on for a short time each time, others are on for longer. It's all ok.

Sorry, not 6 to 16 times....8 to 16 times.

Cheers for that tiktok, I'd actually read those figures first time round and totally forgotten. I think the midwives at the hospital freaked me out as kept saying he should do a minimum of 15mins at boob, change nappy then offer the other. Why they'd expect that at this point I don't know...cheers, I feel better :)
