My 3 month old doesn't really want to eat.

I have a 3 month old baby who is struggling to eat. He is only a tiny baby weighing 6lb 6oz when he was born & dropping to 5lb 8oz. We have been playing catch up ever since! He initially had expressed breast milk for the 1st 9wks & then we weaned him onto formula. He developed colic around 10wks so we changed to a comfort formula and all seemed to be well. However just recently he isn't taking as much but has started sleeping through from 11pm to 5am. Which is lovely for a very tired Mummy but concerning that he has now dropped a feed. He is gaining weight slowly & now weighs 9lb 4oz. He will drink somewhere between 18oz and 23oz a day in 5-7feeds. (Its the days he only takes 18oz that really worries me & these are becoming more often.) He is extremely fussy during feeding & at times I really feel like I am force feeding him, he often doesn't even ask for it. I have tried many different positions for feeding & could rival boots with the amount of bottle/teats I have bought & tried!
He is a very happy, alert and active baby so I don't know if I am worrying over nothing (I am a first time Mum). Many people tell me I am being a little paranoid but i get grief from the health visitor about his weight everytime I have him weighed. I don't know what else I can do to get him to eat. If I force him too much he throws it back at me & I don't want to damage out relationship by constantly wrestling with him over feeding.
Any advice anyone could give would be much appreciated as I really don't know what else to do!

It seems very similar to my friends dd, she is the same age and drinks the same amount as your ds. He weighs the same as he does.
She has had trouble with reflux and colic and intolerances but nobody seems overly concerned by her weight.
My two were bf so I can't offer much more than this other than to say you aren't alone.

Is he bright and alert at times? What is his nappy count like? Is is following the same line on his height and weight centile now? Are the two centiles in proportion?

He is always alert when awake, in fact he is very nosy!!! No worries in the nappy department either. It is those blasted charts that are the pain. Height wise he is on the 9th & always has been. He dropped off the weight one at 4 weeks & is making his own arc underneath.
