Hot shooting pains in boobs at night

growyourown77 · 12/06/2013 03:29

I've been having hot shooting/stretching pains in the inner fleshy pats of my boobs. I have an 8 week old and am majority BFing. I've had latch checked and baby is feeding/thriving.

I thought it might be tissue stretching from baby pulling or unsupportive bras, so got measured and got two better bras on the weekend.

Last night it was soooo painful. Ibuprofen and coolpacks helped a bit,

I read NHS website in mastitis but don't seem to have any other symptoms. An BFing now and the pain are much reduced again, so it's not constant.

Any ideas, similar experiences, tips?

Tks.

After listening to a radio broadcast yesterday that described this exact thing, I would go and see your Dr. to rule out both Mastitis or something more sinister. I'm sure you'll be fine, but its always better to err on the side if caution with this kind of symptom.

does sound like mastitis? do you have other symptoms? i also had flu like symptoms with it, was shivering and felt cold, couldnt move at night, was awful.
could it be engorged boobs? is it happening after a longer break of feeding?

Thankfully no fever or feeling ill. I do get rngorgemevtcrrom time to time as I'm mix feeding, but it's typically happening late evening after the more frequent evening feeds. So not engorged at that point.

I've been trying to do good 'boob management' - cool packs and breadt massage if engorged/starting to get hard or lumpy.

could it be thrush?

Hmm, I'll check her mouth when she stops feeding. I've not seen any white bits.

Thrush
you don't necessarily see anything on the nipple.. Def see your Gp

I had something similar. Apply heat pack to boob( put hot water in a nappy), massage gently, check for any lumps on boob, could be a blocked duct..have a shower, warm water over boob and again massage. Take some paracetemol for soreness. Go to gp for check up. Kellymom has good info. Hope that helps.

Hi ladies, thanks for your help. Got in to see GP and she reckons its thrush, so I've got the gel and will give it ago. DD has a rash on her lady bits that she thinks is a spot of thrush too. I've been avoiding mushrooms etc, so gutted we've got it. I'll try the heat pack/bath thing tonight too.
