Newborn very noisy breathing when feeding, is this normal?

My three week old loudly squeaks/whistles while breathing when swallowing. If he stops sucking to breath it just sounds like heavy breathing but when he is sucking the squeaky whistle sounds like he is gasping for breath and is very loud. Have others had this? Is it normal?

Ask your HV about stridor - might be wrong, but it could be this.

It's benign, by the way :)

My daughter makes a goose like noise when she's feeding. Like she's desperate for more and is going at it like crazy. The midwife and breastfeeding nurse both listened and said its very normal :)

Thanks all. I've looked up stridor and it could be that. DH reckons it sounds like croup without the cough and not constant at all. It's not causing problems with feeding because he put on 10oz this week.
