Baby falls asleep feeding then wakes the second I put her down

LO is only five days old but I'm finding it hard with the night feeds because she'll only stay asleep while still on the breast. She can be sound asleep but as soon as she gets laid in her crib she screams. I know it's probably the bond with me she craves but we can't co sleep so I need a way to get her down. She also stops feeding so I unlatch her, thinking she's done, then when put down screams and wants fed again. :(

This is going to drive us both nuts. It's as though can't get her to sleep unless she's wrapped round me. She's only a few days old, granted, but I want to start as I mean to go on...

So you put the baby on the outer edge of the bed? Sorry I don't know much about cosleeping but isn't that risky in terms of the baby falling out of the bed?

Well, your partner needs to be generous with the amount of bed space you get, so ideally you'd be lying near the middle of the bed and the baby would be a good foot in from the edge - they don't move much at 5 days old so rolling shouldn't be too much of an issue Wink (although babies do love to surprise...)

There have been sleep studies carried out that show co-sleeping bf mothers seem to know where their babies are in relation to them in the bed and position themselves in a protective way.

They shouldn't be between you until they are much much older. Bed guard or put the bed against the wall, packing any gaps between wall and mattress with rolled up towels.

It is so much easier to feed them to sleep and do a tuck and roll.
