You know I never thought I'd buy one of those bf cover things

But there was a bargain in tkmaxx yesterday. With dd I never bothered much, just fed wherever really. This time around and dd2 is a nightmare. She struggles to keep her latch and clicks/slurps so needs taking off and relatching on every minute or so. Then she starts with the wriggling because she needs to fart or can hear something behind her, so she throws her head back and I get a foot long nipple at best, or the entire restaurant/cafe gets an eyeful of boob (and quite possibly milk) at worst.
Anyhow, it's been restricting me somewhat as I've had to arrange my outings around her feeds so as to try to avoid having to feed in public, and that's been getting me down a bit. I tried the cover out this morning in bed and it's bloody fab! I can see everything I need to, she can see me, I'm hoping it will improve her being distracted too. Sadly I don't think it will cure the farting....
And yes I know it will mean everyone knows I'm bf, I don't care, I'd rather that than the alternative

twatty it sounds to me (and I know this isn't what your op is about, but nm ;) ) that there is a tongue tie - inability to hold a latch, clicking and slurping all classic signs. A revision should sort this out and remove the need for a cover!

How old is she, Twatty? If you can, see if you can get her tongue checked for tonguetie - even a small partial can make a big difference to her ability to latch. Both my DSs had partial posterior tongue tie, both snipped because of the appallingness of their latch (and the PAIN!) and it made a big difference in both cases. Contact your local breastfeeding support people and see if they can tell you where to go. :)

Yes she is tongue tied and upper lip tied. The tongue tie is posterior and only the hv agreed with me that it's even there. We were referred and the ent doctor said there's no tie and the lip won't affect feeding. I gave it up as a bad job. Anyhow, apart from the inconvenience it's not causing us any problems and she's gaining weight and I have no pain. She's 12wo and I'm only planning to feed until 6mo as I need to start taking medication for my arthritis again which isn't safe with bf. I'm managing on ibuprofen and low dose codeine for now but it's a battle an the pain is always there.

I am a bf supporter too, so I've seen the infant feeding coordinator and the local lactation consultant as they are both friends of mine and they say she has a good range of movement in her tongue.

Dd can struggle with too much flow so needs to pause. She's only little at present but if this continues I think I'd find a cover handy.

DS1 could stick his tongue right out too, and touch the roof of his mouth.

It was the very back of his tongue that wouldn't lift which was why he was so inefficient at breastfeeding. I was always able to see his entire tonsils without depressing his tongue and since revision, his tongue sits way higher up in his mouth.

But he was 6yo when we got it done, so different kettle of fish altogether.....

It's a bebe au lait that I got, it was only £12.99! It's a lovely pattern too.
