what formula do you recommend for one-off bottle for 9 mo?

hi, DS was ebf til weaning and is now still bf on demand. Has taken a bottle of ebm on occasion from DP but with varying levels of success. We've never given him formula.

Going to a wedding next weekend and plan is for DP to put DS to bed back at hotel so I can stay up at wedding evening do as its my bunch of friends. Planning to give him formula as can't be bothered faffing with pump on plane/hotel room etc.

Thing is I have no idea where to start with formula. How much? What kind? Am thinking probably the ready made cartons, and I guess volume doesn't matter much as its just for one/two feeds one night, we're not about to suddenly over feed him, are we? Is there a certain type of formula for 9mo who are also on solids?

Any pointers in the right direction greatly appreciated.

Hi, formula is made to certain EU regulations so there isn't much to choose between them. I wouldn't get too stressed about brand for this one off.

Aptamil (I used it) comes in 200 ml ready to feed cartons. I think sma is 250ml. I think you can get disposable teats for the sma ones. If you think about the number if likely feeds then get a carton for each for simplicity.

Until opened the cartons don't have to be refrigerated. Once opened they should be refrigerated for no more than 24 hrs and the contents in the bottle chucked after 2 hrs.

If you have to fly put them in your hold luggage as some airports make you open a carton and taste it going through security and then you basically have to use it which wouldn't seem relevant to you.

There's either stage 1 or follow on milk (6 months plus) they are basically the same and follow on is largely an advertising gimmick. Either should be fine for your son.

My DD was always pretty clear when she'd had enough. You won't overdress him.

One other thought. If he's eating solids you could stick to water and have formula as a back-up?

If he has never tasted formula and only takes a bottle so so from dh, I would say he won't entertain the formula in the bottle. It tastes very different to ebm and not in a good way.
Tbh I'd rethink your plan or do some preparation before hand, you will be asking him to settle in a strange environment with a bottle that he may or may not take, of a substance that he's never tasted before.
My personal experience is that where babies are concerned, same=good, different=bad so I would be trying the formula out now at home to make sure he will take it in a bottle, and once you are confident he will, maybe try doing the bedtime routine in a different room.
You may well find it all goes tits up and he refuses point blank to settle and gets very stressed which may well ruin the evening for you.
Personally, I would ask dh to get him ready for bed in the hotel room, you whizz up and do his feed and then back down to the party. You can have a glass of wine no problem, and if he is sleeping through without a feed you could probably have two or three glasses and still be fine to feed him in the morning.
As far as which formula, any stage one milk is fine, they are much of a muchness, although I'm told Hipp organic doesn't taste quite as bad as some others
