BFing a new baby & toddler interest

Didn't really know how to word the title! I am about to have a new baby (am 36wks), DS is 2.6 and I fed him till he was 18m. He still loves my boobs, sticks his hand down my top for comfort and also likes to play with my nipples if I've got no top on . He knows babies get fed either from a bottle or from your boobs and has seen both methods being done (probably seen more bfing than bottle to be honest) and he knows he was fed by me (says he remembers it but I'm not sure. Anyway, a few people have said to me that it's common for toddlers to want to try to latch on again if they see you feeding a new baby.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced this and how they handled it?

My son has no interest in me breastfeeding our newest addition. He says its baby milk and he is a big boy.
He really didnt bat an eyelid and still strokes boob for comfort when brother is not attached to it.
I've not heard of any issues, but I guess if he did want to latch on again I may say that the milk is for babies and not big boys.

My DS was the same age as yours when DD was born. He self weaned at 25mo. I thought he might be jealous but like GirlOutNumbered he wasn't that interested really. He did tell people that DD didn't eat proper food but had "mummy milk" (his words) instead.

He did try and latch once or twice but only in a kind of experimental way, he wasn't serious about it at all .

DS1 was the same age as your child when DS2 was born, he asked if he could feed so I said yes.. when it came to it, he didn't want to.

My DD was 21mo when DS was born and had not been breastfed since she was approx 5mo. She was interested, and once or twice asked if she could try. The first time I said no, it's for DS, the second time I sort of indicated she could come here if she wanted to, but she pulled a face and never asked again.

Yes DFs older DCs have variously stolen the odd feed when their younger siblings came along. Not unusual at all.

DD1 was mix fed and gave up BF totally at 5 months. So she was never interested. She just liked me BFing her sister because it meant more attention for her. Lots of chatting, book reading and one handed help with duplo. Much better than mummy cooking, tidying or playing on
her computer. I am not good at playing with small children (Fortunately, iPhones and tablets were a few years away or DD1 would have got no attention at all).

Ds1 was just 3 when ds2 was born, I had bf him til he was 18mo. He showed a lot of interest in the process and still now (ds2 is nearly 1 and still bf) is fascinated and asks lots of questions but he's not shown any interest in having any himself whether from me or expressed. It's for babies and he's a big boy.

I had decided before ds2 was born that if ds1 wanted to try I would let him confident that he wouldn't be able to latch properly (he had lost the ability to latch properly by the time he was 19mo which was the last time he tried). I didn't want to say no to him because I was worried about shutting him out/jealousy issues. As I said though it never happened so wasn't an issue.

Ds was just 2 when dd was born, i fed him until he was 20 months. I was quite worried he would remember and want to latch, i would have let him but didn't really want to, however he seems to have completely forgotten. I do lots of "ohh let's give the baby some milk, she can't have apple/toast/chocolate button like you", now he will suggest i feed her whilst he has something much more exciting. Good luck!
