hi all, I stopped bfing around the end of Jan and I thought my milk had dried up ages ago but it appears to have returned for no reason what so ever!! I am due on soon and weirdly it was not long after speaking to my SIL about bfing that i noticed i was leaking a tiny bit!! is this normal??

How long did you BF for?

It can take years to stop if you have BF for years. Even if you didn't feed for that long, you will have milk for quite a while.

SheepNoisesOff · 30/03/2013 19:58

Oh should mention that if completely unexpected then it can be something to check with your doctor, but at 2 months after stopping it's completely normal. Talking about it probably brought it on!

My DD stopped BFing 14 m

Try again...

My DD stopped BFing 14 months ago. I'm still lactating. It's annoying.

CollieAndTheEyeV · 30/03/2013 20:03

DD bf'd for 14 months. It certainly seems normal for l

CollieAndTheEyeV · 30/03/2013 20:04

Arse. I give up. Stupid phone

SheepNoisesOff · 30/03/2013 20:08

Collie [bugrin]

Definitely normal OP, and nothing to worry about.

The body is funny huh? You were just thinking about breastfeeding and it made you lactate!

Voodika · 30/03/2013 20:10

Was it clear or milky?
My daughter just had the most awful tummy bug and it was a godsend that I could restart.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/03/2013 20:11

I lactated for years and years after stopping breastfeeding. I'd fed dd for 16 months and was still lactating when she was about 8. GP measured my prolactin levels and they were normal, he had no idea why it was happening.

OhWhatAPalaver · 30/03/2013 20:12

Yeah, it was rather odd , I thought it was probably nothing out of the ordinary but after seeing nothing for weeks it took me by surprise! [bugrin]

Ha ha, just squuezed and immediately had a big squirt of what looks like milk. Dd is 12yo.

OhWhatAPalaver · 30/03/2013 20:27

wow viva that's a long time to be lactating!! i suppose some people are just more prone to it than others.

it kind of looked half clear and half milky if you see what i mean...

I stopped feeding dd2 just shy of 6 months. I was still producing milk 2 years later when I had an appt at the breast clinic for a lump, consultant asked me if I had any discharge from my nipple, I had a check and we were both quite surprised.

VisualiseAHorse · 31/03/2013 23:32

I stopped in December, still leak milk in a warm shower, and can squeeze some out if needed. Baby was 8 months when I stopped.

Have tried to re-latch LO, but he's not having any of it!
