Return of fertility with subsequent dc whilst bf

Did it take longer, or did it return sooner for you?
It took until after DC1 nightweaned/slept through at 8 months before my periods returned (couple of months later, at 10 months).
I'm still bf my DS who is 10 months old, but no sign of fertility returning. However we are cosleeping, and he feeds multiple times during the night, and doesn't look like sleeping through any time soon!
Just wondering I guess, does return of fertility follow a similar pattern each time. ie is it likely I'll need to nightwean my ds?

I got pregnant when I had just finished bfing at 8months. Did not get period, must have just ovulated then conceived.....

Fertility returning and periods restarting aren't quite the same thing.

And bf-ing shouldn't be relied on as a contraceptive after 6 months anyhow.

So if you've been having otherwise unprotected intercourse, you might want to POAS every couple of weeks.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I realise that fertility may take a while to return to normal after periods restart, or that I could be lucky enough to conceive the first time I ovulate.

But, the fact that I'm not having periods (and am definitely not pregnant) means fertility has not returned. At least if my periods did return, it would be a sign that things may be heading that way.
It's just frustrating if you want to TTC not knowing when fertility might return. I really don't want to stop bf just yet. I guess if nothing happens in the next few months I'll have to tackle night weaning! (Just wish DS would hurry up and learn to sleep through the night by himself!)
