Are boys harder to breast feed?

So many threads at the moment are from Mums of boys who are struggling with constant or otherwise difficult breast feeding. What do Mums of boys and girls think?

My DS is much harder to feed than DD was...feeds longer, more often, sleeps less.

Now I had the opposite. DD took hours to feed and was difficult, whereas ds was a breeze....

Both my DD and DS were easy. DS slept a bit better but I think that was because I was a more relaxed mum second time around.

I'd be one of those mums... I fed 2 girls with no problems, and am struggling this time (ds is 10 weeks)He doesn't feed excessively, but I've had problems with latching, and painful breasts before, during and after.
He is currentlyvery difficult to get on, thenwriggles and bites and chews me. I have to hold him in a virtual headlock!

I don't know if it's just that he's a different child, or because he's a boy, but I have noticed that I'm not the only one with problems.

My chap is a nightmare. Throws himself around while bf, seems to play the 'air guitar' on my boob while he feeds. And I was so confident starting out....

Ds1 was a nightmare to feed. Ds2 was very easy and so is dd.

Iread on your other thread about one sided feeding - I have a bit of an oversupply problem, and very painful letdown. Do you think it would help with the pain?
Sorry to be changing the subject slightly, but I suspect if I start a new thread for my question, it'll be Apostrophe and Mrs D answering anyway!

Think it's just individual children, not a gender thing.

Ds better in that he fed far more efficiently, sucking to feed rather than for comfort as dd did.

No difference between my ds and my dds in terms of feeding - all fed/feed well.

Jasnem, it has helped with the pain but its not gone. My supply dropped during the first 24 hours (was great), then went back up (I think...I find it hard to tell whats going on to be honest) but now (5 days on) I think is settling down a bit, although he still screams some feeds, particularly the first feed off the new side. I still have lots of milk and fast let dow, but its helped a bit, and he sleeps more now. :o

Oh DS is only 8 1/2 weeks...have I been telling porkies somewhere? :o Can't wait 'till hes 12 weeks...might get easier then! 12 weeks is my current BF target, then I will revise...

Hmm ds was impossible & gave up after 4 days, Dd was like a dream & managed about 3 months wish it was longer Smile

Just have to point out something rather obvious - if boys were harder to breastfeed then the human face would've died out long ago!
