baby yanking off nipple (ouch)

DD is 20 weeks (14 weeks corrected age as she was prem) and has recently started doing this. she will feed well for the first half of the feed, then once she's had a reasonable amount will yank off.

she'll go back on if I offer, but will then yank off again quite quickly. as a result it is hard to get her to take a big feed at the moment, she is preferring frequent smaller feeds.

she seems quite happy - in fact she will sometimes turn and smile at me straight after yanking off! which would be charming if it didn't bloody hurt.

is this normal? is it just a phase? or could there be something wrong...?

oh that does sound a lot like it yes! and it's worse if I try to feed while we are out somewhere and better if she is sleepy, so that makes sense too.

any idea how long this stage lasts...?

4 month growth spurt as pp said - also a wonder week (seem to be saying this a lot on here!) - which is when baby is having a developmental leap, and can be a lot more fussy on the boob.
