cod · 07/05/2006 08:46

flight of fin

lummox · 07/05/2006 08:47

is it a little bit like a thin grain of rice - a sort of tiny white skin tag?

i had one - incredibly painful and i could only feed from that side a couple of times a day.

i think eventually it was ds's first solids which was even more painful, but then it was fine.

Enid · 07/05/2006 10:04

lol at ds first solids

it looks just like a normal bit of nipple but white

still there and dd3 refusing to feed from that bresat Sad

These hurt like hell don't they Enid? I went through a phase of getting them quite frequently, and I would really tense up when ds fed from that side... But they would usually go after a few days. Hope it improves soon for you.

Enid · 07/05/2006 15:51

it is so painful Sad

am feeling very pissed off

lummox · 07/05/2006 16:08

absolutely miserable - you have all my sympathy. i remember feeling very embarrassed after bursting into floods of tears from the pain when speaking to a really nice woman from la leche about the skin taggy thing and yours sounds very horrible.

would avoid reading too much kellymom if you are feeling peed off, btw. it is fab in many ways, but there is a particular American-humourlessness about some of it that makes me feel panicky with boredom.

Enid · 07/05/2006 16:11

how long did yours last lummox?

buffythenappyslayer · 07/05/2006 16:13

i had one and i squeezed it!best to do it in the bath, but i didnt.you'll have tears streaming down your face, but once it pops its so much better.

Enid · 07/05/2006 16:15

I tried that Shock

had very hot bath and squeezed adn picked - nothing

about six days I think (am pretty sure it was less than a week but not a lot less, I'm afraid).

the pain did get less over time - i think the area got de-sensitised, or maybe i just got used to it as time went on. the first day or so was definitely the worst.

i really had to force myself to feed from it. horrible, horrible, horrible.

Miaou · 07/05/2006 16:15

oh Enid, I had one of those when ds was about a couple of months old - ouch!! Haven't looked at the links but I found the best thing to do was to run a bath as hot as I could bear it and have the water high enough to go over my breast, lie in it for about ten minutes, then express into the water by massaging (pressing down with the pads of my fingers in a firm stroke towards the nipple). Then when I had emptied as much as I could, put ds on and get him to suck as much as possible! (he would refuse when it was engorged but would latch on when it was emptier). I seem to remember it lasted a couple of weeks - sorry.

Miaou · 07/05/2006 16:16

Mine never popped as such, just went away. But the expressing helped.

buffythenappyslayer · 07/05/2006 16:18

its like cheesey stuff that comes out then milk blasts out aswell!!!i tried soaking my nipple in the bath whilst squeezing.didnt help really.got a t towel to bite on and then squeezed it!!all came out, just dont stop squeezing til it pops,or you'll be back at square one.

Enid · 07/05/2006 16:20

I presume it is a milk blister

typical the midwife has signed me off now so she issnt coming out anymore and cant look at it

CorrieDale · 07/05/2006 16:59

I had one of these. I am Blush to admit that I popped it. Squeezing wasn't cutting it so I stuck a needle into the lighted gas ring, jabbed it into the blister once, and then squeeeeeeezed. Hurt like hell, probably could have got an infection, but it worked.

suzi2 · 07/05/2006 18:07

I had one that appeared before DS was born so nursin in the early days was especially sore. However, I also had an incorrect latch on that side and in fact the friction caused by the latch popped the blister so I was actually in less pain!

Not much help really...sorry

RedZuleika · 07/05/2006 21:39

You are not alone in your masochistic peculiarities, CorrieDale! I have done the same thing.

I had a blockage a while ago - took ages to clear (well - two days, but it was bloody sore in that time). While the duct was blocked, skin formed over the end, at the nipple. I managed to get that cleared, but then there was this ruddy 'bleb', just sitting there, laughing at me. Tried loads of things. Little bugger just wouldn't go.

Expressing worked in the end. Perhaps my wee girlie just doesn't work hard enough on that side to clear problems? She certainly prefers the other side.

(She's also sick and wakeful through the night - which is why I'm imagining blebs laughing back at me... Grin)
